Highlighting the World Cup migrant workers that never returned.

In 2010, Qatar was awarded the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Since then, thousands of migrant workers have died or been seriously injured. Instead of football players, Cards of Qatar goes beyond football and highlights the workers who never returned. A unique collaboration between journalistic site Blankspot, app Forza Football, and Forsman & Bodenfors, the main goal was to shed as much light on the journalism as possible. All stories were gathered by Martin Schibbye and local journalists in India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

A short doc about the project directed by Olivia Kastebring.

To present the stories with dignity, we designed a handmade box that holds 33 cards. The graphics were inspired by the World Cup 2022 to create a connection as if it was the official cards.

A few days after launch, we turned the cards into 50 posters in the heart of Stockholm.

We then made the cards available in-store, right next to the official FIFA World Cup Cards.

Cars of Qatar is currently exhibited at the National Football Museum in Manchester (the world’s largest football museum).

Please visit cardsofqatar.com to learn more, share the project, and if you have confidential tips regarding more stories.
